Here we explore old home computers like the Sinclair ZX series, Commodore, Atari's and others. We'll be looking at repairs, updates and use for these vintage machines.
I've been using home computers since I bought a Sinclair ZX80 - in kit form - back in 1980. It taught me BASIC but it was short of memory. The adverting stated a "Massive 4KB" of memory, but only 2KB of that was usable RAM, the other 2KB was the OS ROM. I was working in a TV rental company at the time and my boss asked me to write a Christmas message to show on a TV in the showroom. I managed to get large characters to display the message but when I got to "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OU" I ran out of memory. I had to learn machine coding fast to achieve the required display. A few years later I managed to but a Sinclair Spectrum 48K and used that with a full keyboard, mouse and printer port and twin Microdrives. I wrote much of my early training material on that, till I could afford a PC with a massive 10MB (Yes, MEGABYTE!) hard disk. Running GEM desktop and WORDSTAR.
So, as I delve back into my history of "Retro" computing from that great era, enjoy.
