Another CD/Radio?Cassette unit repair. This Roberts CD9960 had two faults: First the cassette deck would not run and secondly the system/mode switch was very noisy causing the sound to distort or fail to come out of both channels. The first fault was diagnosed to a faulty motor and whilst I could have ordered a replacement, I had a second one of these units in for spares and was able to swap the cassette deck over.
The second fault was the switch itself and whilst cleaning with switch cleaner would normally have fixed it, on this occasion it didn't so I removed and cleaned the contacts manually. Barring a couple of technical issues with the recording, it all went well and the customer was pleased to have the unit repaired and back before Christmas.
