This VHS Video, DVD and HDD Recorder combi had a mechanical failure in the VHS Mechanism, due to little fingers posting the battery cover from a remote control into it. It took a little while to discover what had been broken and then two attempts to fix it were tried, the second successfully using "micro welding" of the centre pinion of one part of the gear train. I managed to get the pinion to remain in place using a gas torch / soldering iron the weld the pinion back into the deck.
Once fixed, the mechanism worked perfectly.
It's a bit of a long video even though I have sped up some of the more mundane unscrewing and screwing sections, but it does show the diagnosis, the repair work necessary and testing. Hope you find it useful and entertaining.
